Yelp- I give it two stars
Wednesday, April 29th, 2009It is with a tinge of regret that must give Yelp two stars. I do realize the kids are crazy about its supposedly egalitarian nature, but like most things that the kids promote as neo-democratic it is anything but… Yelp allows a handful of people with way too much free time to actively pass judgments that they are frequently unqualified to make. Further, contributors believe that they are witty. A quick cold read of any establishment will reveal that in fact, few posters are indeed verbally gifted. Finally, posts are often about the person’s own ego, rather the subject matter at hand. Read 2-3 posts that like “I’m from [fill in the blank Midwest State] and the [fill in service] in [fill in urban area] is not customer friendly and why are these people inefficient and blah blah blah….
I blame Tim and Nina Zagat.
The only thing that makes me not rate Yelp as one star is that I use it as a phone book.
